Viewing the deceased

Where the deceased is rested before the day of the funeral is a personal decision. The deceased can stay at the funeral home, be taken back to their own home or stay at a friend or family member’s home.

The choice of whether or not to visit the deceased is completely personal. Some take comfort and reassurance from visiting them, whilst others consider it too distressing.

If the deceased stays at the funeral home, your funeral director will welcome visitors to their Chapel of Rest. Usually families are invited to leave personal items, such as photographs or other personal belongings, with their loved one whilst they stay in the Chapel of Rest until the day of the funeral.

Often, an appointment will need to be made to visit the deceased to ensure the funeral director or another member of staff are available to look after you whilst you are visiting your loved one at the funeral home.

Not all mourners want to see their loved one when they have passed away and this is perfectly acceptable and understandable.
