Poems, readings and eulogies

If you would like a poem or reading to be included in the funeral service speak to your local funeral director or celebrant of the service for help, support and ideas.

A friend, family member or celebrant may read a few words or a poem about the deceased during the service, this is known as a eulogy.

The basic premise of a eulogy is to give praise and celebrate a person’s life. The eulogy should create a balance of a person’s life and can also include some lighter moments if appropriate. A eulogy can be difficult to write and deliver. Contact your local funeral director to request a ‘How to write a eulogy’ guide.

It is important to speak to both the celebrant and the funeral director to ensure sufficient time is allocated in the planning of the funeral. Please note that some celebrants may not vary the format of their usual service and may restrict eulogies and readings.
